How to solve this problem: «Sent emojis in a Skype for Business chat are not displayed or received as text»

In some laptops, when user sends emojis in a chat window, the emoji to send is displayed to be chosen but once it is sent, it is not displayed on the chat window.

Also, clients that are suffering this issue, when they receive a emoji in the chat window, some of them are displayed as text (emoji code, as an example, (wait)) and others are directly not received.

After checking the Skype for Business client, you see that all settings are configured as expected.

«Show emoticons in messages» is selected

«Turn off emoticons animations» is not selected.

To solve this issue, a registry key must be modified following these steps.

  1. write REGEDIT on the windows starting menu.
  2. Go to this path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync\
  3. Modify this registry: DisableRicherEditCanSetReadOnly to value 1. (Set DWORD – DisableRicherEditCanSetReadOnly to 1)
  4. Reboot the machine

Once this has been done, it is solved. Emojis can be sent and received properly.
